Sense of Smell Connected to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

The University of Melbourne and Austin Health did a smell test on war veterans with PTSD. They found that those that had a hard time naming the smell also had problems managing their emotions. The researches think that the brain pathways have been weakened that are used in the the processing of emotions. The same part of the brain that identifies smells is also where emotions are regulated. They hope that this study will help in understanding how PTSD functions and be able to manage it.
