It’s the season for travel and no matter if you’re doing it for business or pleasure the last thing you want to have happen is to get sick. There are some things to keep in mind when traveling so that you can stay healthy. As a rule don’t drink the local water, stick with bottled water. Don’t forget that the ice cubes in drinks could be made from tap water. Wash your hands frequently and carry hand sanitizer with you in case you have no place to wash them. Illness is most commonly spread from hand to nose contact. It’s also important to get enough rest while traveling. You should avoid exhausting yourself from seeing the sites or meeting with clients if you’re there for business. Take time to relax and slow down, physical stress can weaken your immune system. Making sure that you take care of yourself while on your trip is key for staying healthy and avoiding getting ill which will make your trip go much more smoothly.

I read about a study done on veterans with post traumatic stress syndrome and their non-veteran twins to see if their brains were affected. The gray matter density is the part of the brain where emotional functioning occurs. They did MRI scans on both people and the veterans showed an area of emotional functioning that was reduced, but not so in the non-veteran twin. This research supports the conclusion that stress can damage the brain in this particular region that can cause damaging emotional consequences.

This article talks about how over-stressed parents could be affecting their child’s health. There was a study done that followed the health of 120 children over three years. In this study parents were asked to keep a weekly journal of their child’s illnesses and measure their temperatures when they were ill. Every six months they were to complete questionnaires about their own well-being, including stressful events or family conflicts. The study showed a link between depression and anxiety in the parents and an increase of illness in children. Interestingly enough there was no evidence of impact on their health from individual events like, family injuries, separation or general family conflicts.

Fear is also something that is discussed, because it can weaken the immune system and doctors do not want to operate unless the immune system is at its optimal level so that it can kill tumor tissue. It talks about stress hormones that have an impact on the immune system, they are released before and during surgery. They talk of an intervention program that can help extend people’s lives and an increase their chances of survival for the long-term.

Stress is universal and affects adults, kids and teens at some levels of their lives. However, it is possible to reduce the effects of stress and manage them wisely without allowing them to take over the individuals’ life.

Stress is a feeling that is perceived because of some particular event in the environment and an individual’s response to it. It is the manner a body reacts to a specific challenge.

Stressors are events or incidences that incite stress. This state could cover a wide gambit of situations from physical dangers to perceived dangers. On getting the stress perceptions, human body reacts by triggering the nervous system and related hormones. Adrenaline and cortisol are hormones that are released into the blood stream. These hormones speed up the rate of heartbeat, the breathing rate and metabolism. Blood vessels are made to dilate and more blood flows into the muscle groups. This puts the muscles on high alert. There are several other changes that take place to prepare the individual to react to dangerous situations. This helps them in handling the pressures effectively. This entire process is known as stress response.

This stress response is essential and helps a person to perform well when under pressure. However, serious problems are caused when the stress response fails to turn off or reacts excessively. It is noted that this stress response can wear out the body’s reserves and leave a person feeling exhausted or inundated. It also results in weakening of the immune system and thus, exposing the individuals to different types of infections.

Pressures that are too forceful or are long drawn are reasons of prolonged stress. Individuals who are unable to share their worldly responsibilities and have to shoulder them all alone are also found to be under stress.

Hence, it is very important for individuals to know how to “de-stress.” This will help them to cope with stress in a longer perspective and not succumb to it.

Don’t Get Stressed Out provides detailed information on Stress, Stress Management, Stress Reduction, Stress Tests and more. Stress is affiliated with Hypertension Symptoms.
